About the LAB

We are a social enterprise in education.

Grounded in research. Built for practice. Operating at the intersection of equity, pedagogy, and emerging technology.

More than a consulting firm. More than a research lab.

Frame the Change LAB is a social enterprise at the intersection of education research, technology design, and equity practice. That phrase has a specific meaning for us: our mission is not separate from the work we do or the tools we build.

Every engagement, every product decision, and every partnership is oriented toward making education more equitable and more effective for the people who have been least well-served by existing systems. We are not a think tank that publishes reports. We are a research and design practice that builds things, facilitates change, and measures whether it is working.

We operate across K-12, higher education, and workforce contexts, with partners in the United States, Morocco, and Kenya. Our work is international not by aspiration but by design: the problems we care about do not stop at borders.

Our Commitment

"We believe that improving education systems requires both rigorous research and direct engagement with the people who teach, learn, and lead within them."

How we work

Four principles that shape every engagement, every product decision, and every partnership we take on.

Research-Grounded

Every initiative we undertake is anchored in peer-reviewed literature and field-based evidence. We do not build tools or deliver training that is not informed by what research says works.

Practice-Oriented

Our outputs are designed for use, not just publication. We translate findings into curriculum materials, policy briefs, workshop designs, and tools that educators can apply in real conditions, not ideal ones.

Equity-Centered

We design for the learners and educators who have been most underserved by existing systems. This is not a tagline. It shapes who we work with, what we build, and how we measure success.

Globally Minded

We work across education systems in different country and institutional contexts. Our frameworks are designed to be adaptable, not prescriptive, so they hold up across different cultures and resource levels.

The people building it

Three co-founders. Three countries. One shared commitment to making education more equitable and more effective.

Dr. Jeffrey B. Matu
Dr. Jeffrey B. Matu
Co-Founder & Chief Learning Scientist

Dr. Jeffrey B. Matu is Co-Founder and Chief Learning Scientist at Frame the Change LAB. A learning scientist and education researcher, his work focuses on skills development, innovative pedagogies, and qualitative approaches to measurement and evaluation, with particular attention to vocational and technical education. At the LAB, he leads the design of learning experiences and the pedagogical architecture of Fikira. As Principal Investigator, his current research centers on learner experience inside AI-supported tools: why people engage with them, and what that engagement actually produces. He is an adjunct professor at Stevenson University.

Dr. Amine Amar
Dr. Amine Amar
Co-Founder & Chief Evidence Officer

Dr. Amine Amar is Co-Founder and Chief Evidence Officer at Frame the Change LAB. A learning scientist and statistician, he brings deep expertise in research methodologies, formative assessment, learning progression, and data analysis in education. He is a Fellow with the Childhood and AI Lab Research Fellowship and teaches at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco. As Principal Investigator, his research examines how learners move through structured knowledge, how that movement can be measured with precision, and what it means for an AI tool to genuinely support understanding rather than simulate it. He is currently piloting Fikira in his classroom, building the foundational evidence the team needs to build with confidence.

Francis Kahindi
Francis Kahindi
Co-Founder & Chief Technology and Product Officer

Francis Kahindi is Co-Founder and Chief Technology and Product Officer at Frame the Change LAB, based in Nairobi, Kenya. He leads the engineering and product direction of Fikira, serving as the bridge between the research team and the developers building it. Francis brings a strong background in product positioning, value proposition design, and solution architecture, with a particular focus on how AI systems are shaped to serve real users in real contexts. He leads the LAB's thinking on product partnerships and go-to-market strategy as Fikira moves toward classroom deployment.

A Project of TripleMN Holding LLC

We are building toward a future where every learner, regardless of background or budget, has access to the kind of support that helps them actually understand.

If that resonates with the work you are doing, we would like to hear about it.
